Saluto New Palm Pre

I just picked up my new Palm Pre from Sprint this morning so I'm trying it out here to see how well it posts to the forum. So far I like it. Anybody else got plans on buying one? Not sure if it's a true iPhone rival yet (not a lot of apps) but it is a breath of fresh air from my Treo 755p.

This thing glides better than Apollo Creed in the 1st Rocky movie.

Havent seen or used one yet. My old Blackjack is starting to fall apart, looking to upgrade in the near future. Apple is supposed to announce v3 of the iPhone in the next few weeks and if they come out with a 32gb model I'm all over it.

For now at least work provides a decent blackberry

So far the only thing that's lacking is the presence of an aop store similar to iTunes. The keyboard is a definite plus.

I was planning on this being my next phone after looking at the Palm Pro. Then I compared it to the HTC Touch Pro and loved it. The Palm Pro however, was great. The first thing that turned me off of the Pre was that they went back to Palm OS instead of WinMo like the Pro is.

I started to go look yesterday, launch day, but decided to wait. I'm really hoping Sprint will break news on the heels of the Pre releases that the new HTC Touch Pro II will be released sooner than planned. Spring has really lagged behind as far as equipment goes and they need a double punch in the higher end touch smarty pants phones. I've been with them for over 12 years and this year I was closer than ever to moving carriers because of equipment. They're starting to restore faith in me, but we'll also see what perks they'll give me this time. My contract has been up on everything for 6 months.

Update with updates as you get more time with it. If the HTC II doesn't release for a while, I may get the Pre if it's really all that. At least it's cheaper than the HTC.

JKTex,

I was surprised when I found out that the Pre is not using either Palm OS or WinMo but it's a new system called WebOS. I like being able to do several things at once like listening to the radio, sending texts, & posting here w/o having to close any apps.

...My wife regrets the day she got me my iPhone (as she should). I don't hear anything she say's now (according to her). I'm on page 5 of apps and still haven't scratched the surface! I LOVE IT!

I am bummed out. Our e-mail server at work will not transfer my mail to anything but a Blackberry. Worse yet, Sprint doesn't have the Storm as of yet. What to do, what to do? I will be able to access the server via the net, but it would be so nice to have it go directly to the phone.

Oh ya, I called it Palm OS but I meant WebOS. I haven't looked at or into it, but I was under the impression it was Palm's new OS. Is it not?

I think I'll go take a look today. My daughter really wants me to see it and get a new phone.........because she wants a new phone of course.

Don't deny her to be the coolest new phone owner. Funny how that matters these days. I remember when having a cell phone of any kind was cool. Man, I am getting old!!

Oh she's not getting the Pre. She want an Instinct S30 (I think S30 somehow stands for "we finally fixed all the fu's from our first lousy crack at this thing ) because a friend just got one and Sprint doesn't have the iPhone. And she's only just going into 6th grade. It was all those 2nd and 3rd graders walking around after school with the iPhone's that are evil! Just to have a phone isn't good enough anymore.

Wow, in 2nd and 3rd grade we were trying to get home in time to see Gilligan's Island or "God forbid" play in the streets unattended for hours until our parents got home.

hahaha... yeah, it was flipper for me. And playing in the streets was the norm. If you played on the sidewalk someone would chase you.

Ya, times have changed.

That said, we went and fondled the Pre. It's nice. Really slick interface/touch screen so I see how it'll be a decent contender to the iPhone. The keys on the keypad are small, well the keypad is small. I'm comparing to the HTV Pro though. I'm not sure if it'll be my next phone but who knows. We ran out of time and didn't get to play with it as long as I had wanted. But they have a waiting list right now but you know Palm has inventory ready to ship quick. I'll go back by and try the web browser etc.

Just got a couple of new apps today. Nothing earth shattering but apparently these are apps that are also available on the iPhone which is a good sign.

I heard Verizon is in line to add the Palm Pre in 6 months after the exclusive rights expire with Sprint.

I just got a new phone about three months ago, so I won't be getting a new one for a couple years, otherwise I would buy the 32Gb iPhone. I'm jealous.

The only reason I've been joined at the hip with Sprint for the past 10 yrs is that AT&T service is terrible in my area.
