Default Replica Cigars

So, any advice on how to spot a "replica" smoke?

  1. If it's not a reputable tobacconist, it's a replica.
  2. If it is a reputable tobacconist, there's a 50%-plus chance it is a replica.
  3. If it is a "special", the likelihood that it's a replica increases 10 fold
  4. If it's a big name brand like Cohiba, the RF (replica factor) goes up 10x
  5. If it aint triple capped, it's a replica
  6. If the tobacco is rolled in a circular fashion when viewed from the foot as opposed to a more accordion style, it's a replica
  7. If it's a maduro or natural, it's likely to be a replica
  8. If the wrapper isn't flawless, it may be a replica
  9. if the wrapper is too flawless, it's a replica
  10. if there are twigs in it, it's a replica
  11. if the band isn't 10000000% flawless, it's a replica
  12. if the band doesn't fit perfect, it's a replica
  13. if it doesn't smell like the south end of a north bound horse, it's a replica

but of course being an American you know that buying even a cingle cigar made on that island is aiding the enemy and therefore seriously illegal and you wont be doing it.
But if you want to further your education...

And for gods sakes, if it has a glass top box, it is not only a fake, but if you buy it you will end on on youtube as a laughing stock!

of course not!
It's simply an example and demonstration of the ease at which the counterfeiting industry performs.
I am into cigars made in DR, Honduras and Nicaragua (not in that order)
My interest in the forbidden fruit is mostly born from curiosity. I actually prefer many of the cigars made in the other 3 countries as far superior to anything made on the forbidden island. I don't know a Cuban cigar that tastes as good as a Nub (& am not interested in discussing it any further either )
And... while it is reported that over 80% of the Cuban cigars available are counterfeited, less than 1% of the other cigars are.
So
buy a Nub.
know it's good.
Know it's real.
Know you spent your $ wisely.
Know you will enjoy it.
Know you wont go to jail for it!

For those of you who can't control your curiosity while traveling abroad, read above.

I know Skip... just giving you a hard time. I found that website too when I was searching for websites to help identify fakes... I was blown away with the availability of this!?! Who knows, maybe when you place an order on that website, your contact info goes directly to Fidel.

...Good thread. With my being a stogie smoker for the past 5 years, I'll be one of the first to admit I hardly spot a fake.

I subscribe to the theory that they are all fake if acquired anywhere but from a la Casa de Habana and purchased by me or someone I trust.
