:thumb:Hey Sam, I attended a Nub event at a small cigar shop in Douglasville, Ga earlier this year. One of the gifts for purchasing a box of Nubs was a cigar in a plastic wrap and strap to be hung around the neck. The cigar had a multi shade wrapper (barber pole?). At any rate, I hung on to that cigar for a while and smoked it last week and it may have been the best cigar I have ever smoked! What was it??? Is it available?

Best,
WPS

I think those are Limited Edition and only available as gifts/prizes at Nub events.

Welcome Wps, glad to see you here. Make sure you return often. Chris is correct those are only given away at a NUB event.

I can no more bring myself to smoke my "special" cigars than I could shoot one of my "special" firearms. Much too valuable as eye candy to diminish it to ashes, although I feel sure they would be some mighty fine ashes. I think if I could get Sam to mix me up a box of my dream cigar it would have to be a barber pole with a Maduro and Connecticut wrapper. The Maduro is my favorite with the Connecticut a very close second but there is something about a barber pole that trips my trigger. I collect all kinds of barber poles and every one I have tried was a one time affair, a beauty to look at but a horror (to me anyway) to smoke. Even a Between the Lines was tossed half way through and I love the Short Stories, just too much of a good thing. So a Connecticut and Maduro barber pole is something I could enjoy, via both the eye and the palate.
By the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

i may be able to hook up the Skipper on this one.

there are only 6 bundles left in the aging room.

after that they are all gone!

I will spare some for the board, you all deserve em. I have some left over nublive kits that I have been meaning to ship out to skipper as well.

Awesome Sam, we all appreciate all the freebies, not to mention the forum. It's such a great place to make new friends.

As a 'nubie' here, I've got to say this really does seem to be a great and friendly group. It was a pleasure meeting you Sam in the live event in Georgia. Hope there is another one in 2010. Any plans?

Thought I'd let you know of my best nub moment. I purchased a small sail boat this past fall. For my first sail I headed to the gulf coast and anchored for the night off of Cedar Key, Florida. At sun down I had my favorite beer (Dog Fishhead 90) and a Nub Connecticut 354. An incredible experience enhanced by the Nub (and the beer).:)

Incredibly, you can't buy the 120 min in Georgia. I'd love to try it someday.

Yup, 90 is fantastic. I have a few 60s at the house right now, also pretty decent.

We had some friends over the other night - the guys were drinking and smoking in the garage and the girls were inside watching tv. All of a sudden my wife comes outside with an open DFH IPA and says "Danielle tried this and didnt like it, do you want it?" I was all ??!?!?!?!?

WPS, that sounds like an awesome experience, enhanced by a delicious cigar and one of my all time favorite beers. I'm glad you had a good time. Hopefully you can get your hands on the 120 one of these days, although I like the 90 and 60 better.

Thanks, I hope to go again this spring if it ever warms up. Just recieved another box of 354 Nubs from BestCigarPrices. Anyone use them? Seem to have good prices and the service was good.

Another good DFH to go with a Nub is the Burton Batton but it is only available at limited times and hard to get around here.

I had the 60, 90 and 120 while herfing in Pensacola Fl this past weekend. I like the 90 best, then the 60 and the 120 was a little too rich for me..

Agreed, they're all good, but I think I prefer them in that order. The 120 is nice to sip on, especially if you split the bottle with someone else.

It's pretty tough to beat a Nub and a 90. They just seem to go together.

Yes, it's almost as if the two Sam's (Leccia of Nub and Calagione of Dogfish Head) got together to make the perfect match.

That would be great to get those two together for some sort of beer and cigar pairings. I'd pay big money for that!

Hmmmm, i wonder if we can arrange such a situation. Maybe when Sam is on his 2010 tour, when he gets close to MD or Delaware we can work something out. I wonder if Calagione smokes cigars...hmmm

Speaking of, my uncle knows the guy who came up with the majority of their recipes, he said he'll take me by his place sometime. He homebrews quite a bit, so i thought it would be great to talk to him about it. He also sells a lot of homebrew equipment so I might buy a few things.

That would be fun. I did a bit of homebrewing years ago and really enjoyed it but I never brewed anything that tasted as good as the best micros so I kind of gave it up. I still make some mead on occasion. Wonder how that would go with a Nub?

I just bottled my first batch of "MR Beer" and I cant wait to try it! I know Mr Beer is probably not that great but its definitely piqued my interest and now i want to get a little more into homebrewing.

I've also noticed that Nubs pair better with a good beer than any other cigar. Most cigars i prefer bourbon or scotch, or even water. but a Nub and a quality beer make for a fantastic night.

Agreed Chris, Nubs and beer pair very well together, better than most other cigars. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Mr. Beer, and it's a great way to see if homebrewing really is something you want to get involved with. Look up local homebrew clubs, attend some meetings, get familiar with it, and if you like it enough, then you can make the investment to get started. Check out www.byo.com (Brew Your Own magazine) and browse the web. There's plenty of info on it.

WPS, i've always wanted to make Mead, since it's my last name (Meade), and I do enjoy a nice glass (or bottle) occasionally.

Really, I get the gun part, but if you shoot a gun, that is a commemorative or something to that effect, you may lose thousands of dollars, you smoke a limited run hard to find cigar, well you get a few hours of enjoyment out of it.
